It’s Always Good To Wink At Your Dog

It's Always Good To Wink At Your Dog

My dog winks at me sometimes. I always wink back in case it’s some sort of code.

It’s always a good idea to keep your pets on your side. You never know when you’re going to need their help.

It appears, that some dogs do wink knowingly and with calculated purpose. “Diesel,” My son’s dauchshund-pitbull, learned well how to wink at us with one eye and batt his eyelashes quickly when he sees pretty dogs. Diesel knows we praise him when he winks on his own. We have told him how good that is. Diesel seems to understand that people have a humorous “funny-bone.” Diesel has now raised his winking at us to a higher level. He has found out how to push our “humor-button” to keep himself from being scolded for when he knowingly gets himself into trouble! When he knows he has done something wrong, Diesel starts winking at us like crazy. He then gets in our faces to make sure that we see and know that he is winking at us. His serious winking cracks us up laughing so hard that it is difficult to scold him. Wouldn’t you agree that our family dog has turned winking to his own advantage?

I think I read somewhere dogs wink to lower tention.
Dogs somtimes stare at someone/something when they’re about hunt, so winking is their way of saying they mean no harm.
I’m not sure where I read this, it was an article on dog body language.

I read that it means your dog is calmm and comfortable with you. in other words, its kind of code for “I love you”. My dog does the I’d he wants attention or wants to play. I always wink back;)

My Boston Terrier winks at me when I ask if she wants to go outside and she doesn’t want to go. I take it to mean, “No, I’m cool.” But I don’t know what she’s trying to communicate when she blinks. I’m going to pay more attention to the circumstances. Will also try winking back at her to see how she reacts.
